Story/History:[]

Every great city has a few less-than-scenic locales. The sewers under Midgaard is one of those places. Closed off and abandoned for centuries, they have been reopened by order of King Welmar. Workers from the city have begun the laborious process of rebuilding the badly deteriorated sewers to stave off their imminent collapse.

On the top level, you discover a cryptic letter on the ground:

Continue to observe and report.  The arcanist might be onto
    something big.  Big can often be dangerous!  Let us know if
    the time comes to step in and end his line of research.

It seems the Arcanist, Sholvanna Stark, and her Mage mentee, Namirrah Retlaw, have retreated into the depths of the Midgaard Sewers to ply their arcane technology: part dark magic, part steam punk lore. You discover a menagerie of mechanical insects, and a non-functional gate.

When you discover the gate room, you can type:

> enter gate

You enter the gate.
You enter the gate. The world spins for a second and you feel violently ill. Then, as quick as the feeling came, it passes.
However, you are right back where you started, only turned around.
Wherever you go, there you are.

Find the encrypted journal, re-assemble the non-functional gate, and discover the secret of the Arcanist!

General Zone Strategies:[]

The Sewers offers a great low level zone for safe experience and a handful of useful +con items. The map is easy to navigate and there are no death traps. If you're a fan of story, you'll be pleased to find plenty of thematic detail in room and mob description.
