Story/History:[]

Many JediMUD players call Skara Brae "home". It is one of the three most populated urban centers, and has the resources to show for it: an impressive guild system, Welcome Center, and numerous shops and merchants. Located north of the barren Arctic Empire ice fields, west of the Deep Forests surrounding the beseiged realm of King and Queen De Grance, Skara Brae is an excellent Home Town or Way Station. The docks afford ready access to adventure around the Dragon Sea.
Younger students should be forewarned that the ship docked at the port has been rumored to be a dangerous paranormal phenomenon. Lodging is available in Skara Brae for similar rates found in other urban centers.
Newbie adventurers are advised against choosing Skara Brae as their hometown, but for the experienced player, it presents many opportunities.

Access[]

Skara Brae provides easy access to the Arctic Empire, the Ice Fortress, Floodland, Sieged Castle, the Parliament of Owls, Imperial Ravenna, the Elven Village Ruins and the Shadow Storm / Amber Forest of Arden.

Sub-Areas[]

Donner's Den, Gyles Keep, The Metro Platform, and The Tabernacle[]

There are a couple of sub-areas that you should visit while in Skara Brae. The Metro Platform, (southeast of Gyles Memorial station) a tiny zone written by JediMUD master area writer, Steppin, is located in Skara Brae. The zone features the wreck of the Metro Yellow Line and a sneaky DT. Beware.
Gyle's Keep and Donner's Den are also located inside Skara Brae and will provide the low-level adventurer with solid experience in preparation for more challenging mid-level areas. Gyle's Keep has a small dungeon to explore and Donner's Den is basically a Cheer's Bar in Skara Brae.
Be sure to visit the Statues of the Gods in the Tabernacle near the West Gate of Skara Brae.

Area Around Skara Brae[]

The Spring of St. Patrick has a chance to load in this small connector-zone. I have found it at the entrance of Arctic Empire, for example, but it has a chance to load in any of the connector zone rooms. There is a chance that it will not load during an uptime, as well.

Ancient Fire Dragon (gleaming gold standard, coiled dragon ring ), Statue of Hurin (rainbow-colored feather boa), Statue of Ego (a well-worn copy of aristotle's nicomachean ethics), Statue of LordWilliam (Mask of Thalia), Statue of Sand (sand's gas mask), Wizard French (silvery mage cloak, slightly crooked staff, intellect belt, flaming orb) 

General Zone Strategies:[]

Beware of the Wandering Ship of undead sailors docked at the northern piers of Skara Brae.  The Greza have taken many a life, as the boat deck is maze-like, and once you are in their grasp, you may not return alive.  A few tips that can help you:  the undead cannot see in the dark, so if you remove lights and stay inside the ship, you can rest/sleep if necessary.  This area is described separately as the Wandering (Greza) Ship.
In the tabernacle, to the west of the fountain, near the west gate, is a statue garden dedicated to the current DEMIs of JediMUD.  Debuff the statues and glow and go. The Statue of Sand hits hard, so prepare.
The Ancient Fire Dragon and his barrow are included in the Skara Brae area, though the barrow is closer in proximity to New Thalos. You can fully debuff the dragon, but be prepared for tosses, pzars and entropies. The AFD prevents flee, fidos, and scavenges. The dragon is physical damage capped, so striking won't work. Mage squads, jedi squads and other forms of magic damage/summoning approaches work to bring the AFD down.

AFD Jedi Strat[]

This strat requires a little planning. Pre-load your 3 x 25INT jedis to at least 650 mana per jedi. Make sure they are pre-orb/glowing and flying. Set those aside for now. Get your 25CHA bard full and have a 25WIS ranger available, preferably both with fly/glow pre-applied. Mirror your bard. Set those aside. Outfit your pipe-hitting APAL as a regen doll, making sure you have at least 120+ mnR onboard. Have at least 350 mana on your apal for your spell spam since APALs are literally the shittiest caster in the game. Aura of darkness and PFA with a clerical glow are preferred before you begin. Set your APAL aside.

Run your 800 mana cleric up to the barrow. Stay outside the dragon breath wash range. Be s*s*d from the AFD for summons/rebuffs/etc.

Run your full, mirrored, glowing bard up to your waiting C and slowx2, hope, rage the AFD. Recite recall from your inv, or click your heels or whatever else you do to get out of there after debuff.

Run your ranger up there and drop 2xfumbles on the dragon and recall.

Run your apal up there, check PFA and glow, and try to get 2x poisons and 1x blind on the bastard AFD. You might need several passes before you stop losing conc and get at least 2x poisons on the AFD. The blind is useful to stop rando fidos if you die somehow. And you will manage to die somehow. Trust me.

Once the AFD is debuffed, chain in your jedis one after another until the AFD is dead. Make sure you're orbed/glowing before you jump in there and spam 15-20 bis on the AFD before you're either tossed, flashed or insta-killed. Use your parked cleric to grab your jedi out of there if you're in trouble. Just keep throwing 25INT bis at the thing until it gives up it's load of rusted armor. Expect to be there awhile. Skara Brae reset time is fast and occupied so you'll have little time to recharge the gang before your next foray. Good luck.

Skara Brae is a great hometown for your picking thief, who will come in handy picking open locked doors in nearby Sieged Castle.
